How to Program a MERCEDES Truck Key

If you're looking to replace the battery or your key stopped functioning, our parts department is willing to assist you. Please keep in mind that replacement keys should be purchased and synchronized at the dealership in person. This is to ensure the security and safety of your vehicle. Only you or a person authorized by you can request this service.

Keys

There are rumors that you can reprogram the Mercedes key, however this isn't true. Once paired, the key cannot be used with any other car. The metal beam of the key has a unique profile that the Mercedes system detects and only recognizes.  The Key Lab  are different in shape and will not work in the system.

The dealer will need to purchase from Mercedes the new key that is compatible with your vehicle. They do not keep keys in stock at the parts department. You'll need the original title or registration and a driver's license, identity card, or passport to present when you pick up the key. This helps confirm that you are the owner of the vehicle and not a person who is trying to steal it.

If you want to have an agent or delegate pick the keys up for you, you will require the above documents and an authorization letter signed and that is signed by the owner. The authorized representative or delegate must also bring the vehicle to the dealership to retrieve the keys. If you have any other questions, call the dealer and they'll be happy to help. They will let you know if they have the key in stock or if they need to order from Mercedes for a new, compatible key for your vehicle.

Remotes

In some MERCEDES models the remote key comes with touchscreen that shows virtual buttons. When a button is pressed, it sends infrared signals to control devices. The screen can be programmed using a graphical interface program on the user's personal computer. The "buttons" that appear on the screen, are actually pictures of electronic circuit elements. These include resistors, capacitors, inductors, potentiometers, diodes, transistors integrated circuits and switches.

If you place your keys in the boot, it can be difficult to get them out of the truck without damaging the door and the Mercedes-Benz lock cylinder. You can try using a rope that has the slip knot to tie the lock cylinder and then pull it open, but this isn't a foolproof method. It is possible to contact an emergency roadside service or locksmith to open the truck.

The lower level case has a panel that is removed to store the batteries. The panel is a light-brown color with white writing indicating the type of battery that should be used (UM-4/AAA). The panel also features an Plus and Minus sign indents that indicate which direction to place the battery spring coils.

Keyless Entry System

By using a technique known as passive entry and go, SmartKeys with Keyless Go can open or start your vehicle even if the key is not inside. The SmartKeys come with an RFID chip that allows the computer in your vehicle to detect a driver by detecting the key in close proximity.

To activate your vehicle, the key transmits low-frequency signals that are picked up by antennas both inside and outside your door handles. If the transmission matches the ID on the PASE module (Passive Access & Security Electronics), the system authorizes that the key act as a passkey that allows you to operate the vehicle.

These systems are intended for "replay attacks," where a hacker could record and replay control signals in order to gain access to an vehicle or building. To stop this from happening, a specially designed algorithm ensures that every signal transmitted by the keyfob is different from previous ones. The PASE module in the car will be able to detect any attempt by a criminal to record one of these transmissions, and then attempt to reuse it.
